Murchison River Lodge sits on the southern bank of the River Nile 350kms north of Uganda’s capital city, Kampala. The roads in Uganda can be unpredictable and the drive from Kampala to the lodge will take you approximately 5hrs. We advise anyone leaving from Kampala to be on the road heading north no later than 1pm.
Masindi is known as the gateway town into the national park and from Kampala to Masindi takes approximately 3.5hrs. From Masindi to Murchison River Lodge takes approximately 2 – 4hrs depending on whether you travel through the national park (shorter route including park fees) or along the Lake Albert lakeshore route via Butiaba/Bulisa (longer route excluding park fees as the lodge is outside the national park boundary).
Both routes beyond Masindi are on dirt roads so please take care and observe the speed limits – plus extra care and caution needs to be taken in the wet. We do not recommend travelling on either route after dark and do be advised the national park gates close at 7pm so if you arrive at the gates after this time the UWA will not permit entry
Please also be aware that if you are trying to reach us from the north bank the last vehicle ferry crossing from Paraa is at 7pm. The UWA regulate all activity within the park, including the river, so for any problems please contact them on +256 (0) 392 881348 as we are unable to assist with alternative river crossings or late night pick ups.
The lodge is a 20 minute drive from the main tourist area known as Paraa. This is the location for activities within the park including the vehicle ferry crossing for game drives on the northern bank and the boat trips up and down the river.
