Game Drives
Murchison Falls National Park has a very diverse landscape and is home to Africa’s best- known plains animals including lion, giraffe, elephant, buffalo, the elusive leopard and varied antelope. Large herds of giraffe and elephant can often be found grazing the savanna lands close to the Delta area, with the Blue Mountains of the Congo rising up in the distance.
Community Walk
Your guide will be one of our staff members, passionate to show you their village, home and way of life. This gentle walk is anything from 2-3 hrs and can easily be arranged during your stay at the lodge. All donations from the walk go back to the community. Please remember to ask before taking photos within the village.
Fishing
The River Nile is famous for its fishing and 70/80kg Nile Perch are still not uncommon in this protected stretch of water. Wild Frontiers offer experienced guides, equipment and boats for individuals or groups who are keen to fish in this part of East Africa.
Rhino Walk
Rhino can be found in Uganda at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. This 70 square km sanctuary
protects a large population of rhinos and is a true success story after the extreme poaching
that killed the last rhino in Uganda in 1982. We thoroughly recommend supporting Ziwa by
doing the informed guided walk which gets you “up close and personal” to these very special
animals.

Swimming Pool
Murchison River Lodge swimming pool has been carefully built amongst a setting of trees with a view of the River Nile and in a swooping curve below the entrance is a terrace with pool towels, sun loungers and a built in sofa.
The baby pool is adjacent to the main pool with a covered frame over the shallow end to provide protection from the sun. As a precaution against hippos (and to stop young children from running in without an adult) we’ve placed a steel fence around the pool area for safety.
Paraa Bridge across the Nile
An actual bridge now joins the south bank of Murchison Falls National Park to the north bank. So instead of relying on a vehicle ferry and strict crossing times, guests are able to drive across the bridge whenever they wish. The drive time from the lodge to the bridge crossing at Paraa is 20 minutes.
The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) regulate all activity within the park,
including the river, so for any problems you may encounter please contact them on +256 (0) 392 881348.
Birdlife
Uganda is one of the world’s best bird-watching destinations and even non-birder’s will be
captivated by the beauty and varied birdlife found at the lodge (especially on our designated
lodge walk) and in Murchison Falls National Park.
The check list of around 450 birds includes the ground hornbill, secretary birds, black bellied
busted, open billed storks and weavers. Closer to the water you will find swallow tailed bee-
eater, red throated bee-eater, woodland king fisher, francolins, grey heron, hornbills and at
the water’s edge ducks, geese, stilts and plovers. The shoebill stork remains a favourite
within the papyrus swamp area around the Delta area and can sometimes be found on the
islands opposite the lodge.
Chimp Trek
Kaniyo Pabidi Forest is 268 square km and the second largest of the four forest blocks
within the Budongo Forest Reserve. It is a magnificent virgin forest containing both
mahogany and ironwood trees.
Budongo forest is famous for its chimpanzees (between 700-800) and morning and afternoon treks can be arranged directly at Kaniyo Pabidi. Currently 6 groups have been habituated, increasing your chance of a close encounter.
Other primates in the area are black & white colobus, blue monkey and baboons and for anyone keen on birding this is the perfect environment to spend a day seeking out the rich birdlife Uganda is known for.

Boat Trips
Wild Frontiers run a daily 3 hour round trip to the base of the Murchison Falls, a boat trip
unlike any other. The boat gently heads upstream giving you time to take photos of the
varied birdlife and wildlife found at the water’s edge. A boat transfer from the lodge to
connect you with this departure is available via Wild Frontiers for $10 per person
Alternatively, Wild Frontiers offer a scenic 3-4 hour boat trip downstream to the delta area with a pickup straight from the lodge. This is a very different trip, not only for
the contrasting scenery, but your chances of seeing the ancient looking shoebill
stork are high!
Both these river trips are operated by Wild Frontiers (including tailor made excursions.).
Reservations can be made via +256 (0) 773 897275.
The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) also offer boat trips to the Falls and can be contacted via
